Nagy László: Miracle-Son Stag (Csodafiú szarvas in English)

Portre of Nagy László

Csodafiú szarvas (Hungarian)

Tavasz kerekedik,
bimbó tüzesedik,
jázminfával fényes
agancs verekedik,
csodafiú szarvas
nekitülekedik,
nekitülekedik.

Jázminfa virágát
lerágom hajnalra,
inaimmal ugrok
nyárdelelő napba,
pörkölődök, vékonyodok,
maradok magamra,
maradok magamra.

Vadászok meglőnek,
golyó a szügyemben,
Balatonban a sok víz,
mind az én könnyem,
sírva sírok, sírva sírok,
ha sietek lemaradok,
csodafiú-szarvas
hiába vagyok,
hiába vagyok.

Deresen, havasan
eljön a karácsony,
csodafiú-szarvas
föláll az oltáron,
szép agancsa gyúlva gyullad:
gyertya tizenhárom,
gyertya tizenhárom.

Miracle-Son Stag (English)

Spring smells in the air,
buds are getting flared,
with fine jasmine trees
bright antlers fight, glare,
miracle-son stag
becomes heated,
he becomes heated.

I gnaw off the blossoms
of jasmine trees till dawn,
with my sinews I jump
into summer-peak sun,
getting scorched, getting shrunk,
left to myself alone,
I’m left to myself alone.

Hunters shoot at my chest,
a bullet in my breast,
Balaton’s deep waters
are my tears, so bitter,
I cry wailing, wail crying,
if I rush, I lag behind,
I’m a miracle-son stag
hopelessly in vain,
so hopelessly in vain.

Frosted and snowy
Christmas arrives here,
miracle-son stag
on the altar appears,
his fine antlers flare up in flames:
candles thirteen,
bright candles thirteen.
