Weöres Sándor: From that boundless inner me (A belső végtelenből in English)

Portre of Weöres Sándor

A belső végtelenből (Hungarian)

A belső végtelenből néhanap

még kitekintek arcomon keresztül:

felhőt látok, vagy csillag fénye rezdül.

Romlik szemem, már ez is elmarad,

a külvilág rám-zárja kapumat

s ott maradok, hol nincsen föld, csak ég;

nincs esemény meg tünemény varázsa,

se felszín, látszat, habzó semmiség,

csak a valóság békés ragyogása,

mérettelen, számtalan, névtelen,

vágytalan, változatlan szerelem.

Kapumnál a lázas világ megáll:

„Őrült! Önző! Áruló!” – kiabál.

Várjatok, pékműhely van odabenn,

majd táplál még most forró kenyerem."

From that boundless inner me (English)

Sometimes I peer from that boundless inner me
and through my face observe the far-off things:
I see the clouds, or when a star-beam winks.
With worsening eyesight that, too, will cease to be,
the outer world will close my gate on me
and I'll remain where there's no sky, just earth;
with no events, no vision's spell to feel,
of froth, veneer, facade there will be dearth,
all left will just be peaceful glow that's real,
and love with no dimension, number, name,
that lacks desire and is forever same.

The fevered world is by my gate, it dwells:
"Madman!", " Selfish!", "Traitor! " are the yells.
But wait, there is a bakery inside,
and my hot bread should feed me for a while.
