Nekem csak négy rövid láb jutott,
el sem esek, ha elájulok.
Fűszálak karcolják hasamat,
egy könyv sem fér el e has alatt.
Számomra nincs szűk rókaodú,
becsúszom, s indul a háború.
Kinyúlva alszom minden éjen,
elférek papucsod fejében.
S bár csak ez, ahova beférek,
e házban akármit elérek.
Ha akarom, fürdök a kádban,
bohóccá lettem a családban.
Aki nagy, arra sem haragszom,
este megjövök, persze, faxon.

I have to make do with just four short legs,
I won’t even tumble down if I collapse.
Blades of grass keep scratching my belly,
not even a book would fit under it.
No fox-hole is too narrow for me,
I can slip in, and the battle’s starting.
Every single night I sleep outstretched,
I can even fit into your slipper’s cap.
Though it’s the only place I fit in,
in this house I can do in fact anything.
If I feel like it, I swim in the tub,
I’ve become the family’s clownish pup.
I don’t hate anyone big either,
I’m home by night, of course by wire.
