Kányádi Sándor: I have by now seen (Láttam én már in English)

Portre of Kányádi Sándor

Láttam én már (Hungarian)

láttam én már
nyugdíjra sandító
anarchistákat
garast-fogához-verő
forradalmárt
hitetlen papot
- a kocsmáros is ha inna
tönkremenne -
okítottak engem
nálamnál oktalanabbak
- bölcsen figyelmeztető
ujjuk akasztófaként
mered előttem ma is –
egereket kölyköztettek
álmaim fészkébe
de én hálás és
alázatos vagyok
fájó gerincemet
mondhatni ingyen
kezeltethetem világhírű
gyógyvizeinkben
és múzsámat is tisztes
jegyszedői álláshoz juttatták
abban a múzeumban ahová
idővel a rólam készült
arckép is bekerülhet
minden nehézség nélkül
úgyszólván hivatalból

I have by now seen (English)

I have by now seen
anarchists, who looked forward
to a pension with half an eye
revolutionaries who
saved every penny
faithless priests
- if the innkeeper drank
he would go broke -
those with less sense than I
had taught me
- their wisely cautioning
fingers are like gallows
before my eyes to this day -
they put breeding mice
into the nest of my dreams
but I am thankful
and humble
I can take cures
for my painful spine
at our world-famous spas
practically for free
and they even provided my muse with
decent employment as a ticket collector
at the museum where with time
they may display
the portrait taken of me
without much difficulty
by virtue of my position so to speak
