Szenes Anikó: Harvest (Aratás in English)

Portre of Szenes Anikó

Aratás (Hungarian)

Fekete földünket szántja a népünk,

Aranyos kévét arat a karja,

Mire a kalász a földet takarja,

Színaranyától csillog a képünk.

Honnan az új fény, honnan az új hang,

Honnan a csendülő, zengő új ének?

Honnan az új harc, honnan az új hit?

Tetőled földem, tetőled Émek.

Nahalal, 1940.

Harvest (English)

Our people are ploughing black earth at our places,

By armfuls they're reaping gold sheaves all around,

When ears that they gathered had covered the ground,

Gloss of their pure gold shines in our faces.

Whence the new song that’s ringing, resounding,

Whence the new light and those voices so new?

Whence the new fight and new faith that's surrounding?

From you my country, and Émek, from you.
