Jókai Anna oldala, Angol életrajz
Életrajz
Anna Jókai (1932) was born in Budapest. Before becoming a full-time writer in 1976, she worked as a school-teacher. Her first book in 1968, entitled 4447, immediately attracted attention and her subsequent novels and shortstories, with their careful, elegant and almost classic design and with their power to give penetrating insights into the self have proved to be highly successful in presenting the lives of humiliated, lonely and desperate female characters badly in need of love, and in analysing the role of the ‘intellectual working woman’.
Between 1990 and 1993 she was the President of the Hungarian Writers’ Union, the largest organisation of this kind in Hungary and she has been active representing the rights of artists at various forums ever since.
