Ferguson, Samuel: The Fairy Thorn
The Fairy Thorn (Angol)"Get up, our Anna dear, from the weary spinning-wheel; At Anna Grace's door 'twas thus the maidens cried, They're glancing through the glimmer of the quiet eve, And linking hand in hand, and singing as they go, The Hawthorn stands between the ashes tall and slim, The merry maidens four have ranged them in a row, But solemn is the silence of the silvery haze And sinking one by one, like lark-notes from the sky For, from the air above, the grassy ground beneath, They sink together silent, and stealing side by side, Thus clasp'd and prostrate all, with their heads together bow'd, No scream can any raise, no prayer can any say, They feel their tresses twine with her parting locks of gold For heavy on their senses the faint enchantment lies Till out of night the earth has roll'd her dewy side, Then fly the ghastly three as swiftly as they may,

A Bűvös Galagonyafa (Magyar)„Jer, Anna drága, nyűg csak e szövőszék, végre hagyd! Anna Grace ajtajánál így kiáltoztak a lányok, S nézdelnek a csöndes est derengő fényein át, És kéz a kézben mennek, és közben énekelnek, Övezik sudár kőrisek a Galagonyafát, A négy víg lány itt kórbeállt egy pillanat alatt, De ünnepélyes az ezüst derengés, drága köd, S lehulltak a hangok is, mint pacsírta hangjai, Mert a légi magasból s a zöld füvű földből Süllyedtek csendesen, mint ki lopva megpihen, És kábulva hulltak, szépséges dúltak, fejük össszehajolt, S egyikük se kiálthat, nincs szava fohásznak, Érzik, fürtjeik elválnak az ő arany hajától, Mert érzékeiken a bűvölet ül nehezen, Míg a sötétből a föld maga nem fordul, s harmata S a kísértet-fától menekültek ők, s így hazakerültek,
