The Singing Sands (Isle of Eigg)* (Angol)

The ragged peaks of Rùm, hidden
by mist for days, will appear like a visit
from a longed for but elusive uncle.
Everything will sparkle: the surf,
the sea, the sand, the oystercatcher's
Pip! Pip! Pip! and the cries,
near then far, of the children who skip
through the low waves rolling in.
And all the irritations of our lives
will be shaken off as easily as the sand
as we wobble on one leg to scrape
each calf with the other foot.
The sands will chirp like thousands
of quartz birds, rising in oscillating
rings to merge with the earth's hum.

* The Singing Sands are called Camas Sgiotag in Gaelic which means 'Chirping Sands.' The quartz sands, when dry, make a rasping, squeaking noise if trodden on or scuffed by the wind.
Eigg (Scottish Gaelic: Eige) is one of the Small Isles, in the Scottish Inner Hebrides. It lies to the south of the Skye and to the north of the Ardnamurchan peninsula. Eigg is 9 kilometres (5.6 mi) long from north to south, and 5 kilometres (3.1 mi) east to west. With an area of 12 square miles (31 km2), it is the second largest of the Small Isles after Rùm.

Az éneklő partok* (Eigg sziget) (Magyar)

Rùm kopott csúcsai, napokig
ködbe rejtőztek, feltűnnek mint vágyott,
de megfoghatatlan nagybácsi látogatása.
Minden szikrázik: a hullám,
a tenger, a homok, a csigaforgató
Pip! Pip! Pip!-je és a gyerekek közeli
majd távoli kiáltásai, akik átugrálnak
az alacsonyan gördülő hullámokon.
És életünk összes bosszúsága
olyan könnyen lerázódik, mint a homok
egylábon imbolyogva, ahogy
mindegyik vádli a másik lábat dörzsöli.
A homok csipog mint ezernyi
kvarcmadár, erősödő rezgésben
zengve beolvad a föld morajába.

*Kelta nyelven Camas Sgiotag, ami „csiripelő partok”. A kvarchomok  száraz, reszelős, nyikorgó zajt ad ha beletaposnak vagy koptatja a szél.
Eigg egyike a kis szigeteknek, a skót belső Hebridákban.
