Nektek és anyámnak (Magyar)

Vályogbarna arcú anyám
hova tűnt a napsugár?
Hova tűntek meséid
a hazát kereső cigánygyerekekről? Még nem
ettem megöregedett kenyered
- ki lopta el azt is? Ki hazudta azt nekem,
hogy a marékba szorított sárcsomók
gyöngyökké válnak?

Ki törte össze a hold arcát,
amikor kedvesen rád mosolygott?

Hallgatsz.

Beszélj! Ordítsd a lovak pofájába,
álljanak meg a szekérrel,
mert már nem tudsz szaladni, én
sem tudok
- majd együtt sántítunk.

Sánta lesz a hold betört arccal,
sánta lesz a nap, sugár nélkül.

Szerelmem nincs, mert nem sánta
engem csak az szeressen, aki sántítani mer.

Sárszakállát cipőmnek, beviszem a városba
a betonra kenem vele nevemet,
- arról jöttem, s arra megyek.
Mankómmal megfenyegetem sorsom,
mert elfáradtak faizmai.
Nem állok meg anyám,
- pedig már gyűrött papírarcodról,
leperegtek a mosolyok öledbe,
ahol omlani vágyó vályogfalakba döngetett
cigányritmusra ringattál.
Vérrel olajozott csípőd nem nyikorgott.

For all of you and mother (Angol)

My adobe-brown-faced mother,
where did the sunshine get to?
Where did your stories
about gypsy children seeking a homeland get to?  I have
not yet eaten your stale bread
- who stole that as well? Who lied to me, that
lumps of mud squeezed in the hand
will turn to pearls?

Who shattered the moon's face
when it gave you a kindly smile?

You say nothing.

Speak. Howl at the horses
to stop with the cart,
because you can't run any more, nor
can I
-we'll hobble along together.

The moon with its shattered face will be lame,
the sun without its rays will be lame.

I have no love, because she's not lame,
only someone who dares to be lame should love me.

I'll take my mud-whiskered shoes into town,
smear my name with them onto the concrete,
- I come from that way, and that way I go.
I'll threaten my fate with my crutches,
because its wooden muscles have tired.
Mother, I won't stop,
- although the smiles had peeled off
from your wrinkled paper-face into your lap,
where once you dandled me to the gypsy rhythm
beaten into adobe walls that longed to fall.
Your blood-oiled hip was not creaking then.
