Illyés Gyula: From the train (Vonatból Angol nyelven)
|
Hogy nyargalnak hátra a fák, a sürgönypóznák a sín mellett! De ti, ti messzi, hű tanyák, akár a mult, az ifjuság, ti úgy követtek.
Lám, a távolibb, hajdanibb ragaszkodik hívebben hozzád?

From the train (Angol)That which is close, it tears along, how it runs back at frantic speed! But just how faithful, staidly are the things far off that stay with us: much like in my heart.
How the telegraph poles and trees gallop backwards beside the rails! But how you farmsteads far removed, like does the past, that time of youth, you stay and follow.
Do further things, those former times, cling more faithfully, more firmly? Oh, how they slip and falter, too; how they tear, those tame and gentle distant verities!
Reluctantly, hesitantly, past soft mists of winter meadows, those farmsteads upon the hillsides all come to a sudden halt and are now reversing.
Like films with time-steps, filmy views, with thread woven upon a thread, running among near trees that run: that far-off world; it runs as well - the present and that time of youth - both at the same time!
