Laments of a poor child (excerpt) (Angol)Like the one, who fell between the rails, He sees his life in pictures as it fades And whilst whirring wheels clack more and more, There flash before him, slanted views galore, He sees as he had never seen before. I farewell what distant life unveils, The infinite, that stuff of fairy tales, Like the one, who fell between the rails. Like the one, who fell between the rails - a cheerless scene with gruesome pleasure trails - Between the rails, between the wheels I lie, Above my head sad times are racing by, And death, the end is thundering afar, I briefly grasp each everlasting treat: Butterflies, dreams, the gruesome and the sweet. Like the one, who fell between the rails That was the night when clocks ticked in some topsy-turvy ways. That was the night when gardens floated in moon's silver haze. That was the night when When coaches rumbled and came right inside. That was the night when Stodgy words floundered in a teary tide. That was the night when candles and lamps were burning our room. That was the night when All of us, scared, were trembling in the gloom. That was the night when Our faces were pale and scared, teary eyed. That was the night when my poor old, grey-haired, grandfather died.
