Óda (Magyar)
Várost emelsz a poros pusztaságon,
folyót terelsz és embert új irányba,
s az utak fényes fogsorai közül
kilátásként gépek robaja rebben-
Egyik kezedben életet szorongatsz,
felszabadítasz és megtöltöd a lelkünk,
másik kezed a messzeségnek lódít,
és nem tűröd, hogy kifújjuk magunkat.
Olajos vagy, izzadtságszagú, mégis
az asszonyok neked bontják az ágyat,
teherbeesnek és jajgatva szülnek,
hogy nevedet minél többen viseljék-
Ereid a vértől szinte sajognak,
néha azt bántod, aki halna érted,
és rezzenetlen tűröd, hogy az undok
nyálkás férgek mászkáljanak rajtad.
Ó, gyönyörű, vad és félelmetes vagy,
néha nem értlek, ámde úgy szeretlek,
hogy egyszer majd, ha békességre biztatsz,
valami harcban meg is halok érted.

Ode (Angol)
You raise a town upon the dusty waist-land, you give rivers and people new direction, and from among the tooth-rows of the roadways, like vistas come the flights of engine noises - In your one hand ‘tis life you're pressing, holding, you liberate us, fill our souls to brim-full, your other hand then hurls us into farness, and won’t abide it if for breath we're pausing. You're oily and you reek of perspiration, and yet womenfolk for you their beds prepare, conceive, give birth midst yammering and wailing, so there’ll be more born to carry on your name - Your veins are almost smarting from the blood-flow, at times you’re hurting the ones who’d die for you, yet unblinking, you stand the nauseating and slimy vermin crawling all over you. Oh, you're full of beauty, wild and dreadful, at times I do not understand you, yet I do love you, so if ‘tis peace you’re urging, I’d fight your battles and give my life for you.
