Parti Nagy Lajos: You’ve come home, and the sonnets all went to the beach (Hazajöttél, a szonettek meg strandra mentek Angol nyelven)

Parti Nagy Lajos portréja

Hazajöttél, a szonettek meg strandra mentek (Magyar)

Hát hazajöttél, hát haza, hát,
kivilágíthatnánk a kupolát,
alágyújtasz a tegnapi teának,
a plafon szépen visszapúposodik kupolának,
és a csúcsában kerek égre lelsz,
ha ráfigyelsz, ha nagyon ráfigyelsz.

You’ve come home, and the sonnets all went to the beach (Angol)

So you’ve come home, so you’re home now, so,
we should light up the cupola although
yesterday, yesterday it started levelling,
becoming by and by a simple ceiling,
I am tired, so very tired today
I’ve been tweaking at poems, shivering away,
neither my coat nor my blanket is a light show
and I have no announcer but the verse, but the verse,
if you listen close, if you listen very close,
so you’ve come home, so you’re home now, so,
you might have seen the sonnets going bathing, no?
they all went to the beach, I have the facts,
I was fiddling with their swimming caps,
sheepy tercets and peachy octets, the whole mob
munching away on their corn on the cob,
you might have seen them as they wandered out
whistling that rhyme is what its all about,
trotting off mottled as a herd of unwanted
leaving everything behind them enjambement-ed
just take a look around the whole place is a jumble,
my desk, my papers (and the world?) all atumble,
so you’ve come home, so you’ve come, so,
unpacking cold meats, switching on the réchaud
preparing to heat up the tea that’s left over
overhead the cupola looks about to recover
in its crown you might see a sky circle captive
if you’re attentive, really, really attentive.
