Ma éjjel szomorúfűz akadt
az útunkba és oly szomorún
könnyezett ki a fekete és
lázas udvarból, hogy félősen,
sejtőn megremegett a testünk

Amikor reggel arra mentünk,
a nap az ablakra költözött
és ragyogni akart, de a fűz,
fejével elébe borult és
elfojtotta a ragyogását.
 
Láttad?
 
Ez a gyászos, furcsalombú fa
minket sirat, két csókot, amely
összeakadt és most szakadni
készül a könnyesen ragyogó
mindentlátó, szent ablak alatt.

Did you see?

Tonight we came across a willow, weeping,

shedding its tears so sadly

from its black and fevered yard

that it made our bodies shudder

with fear and suspicion.

Did you see?

When we went by in the morning,

the sun, wanting to sparkle,

had moved to the window, but

the willow hung its head in front of it

and smothered the sparkling.

Did you see?

This mournful tree with its odd greenery

weeps for us, for the two kisses which,

caught up in each other, now prepare

to part beneath the tear-stained,

all-seeing, holy window.
