The column (Angol)The clock indicates the moment - but what does eternity indicate? (Whitman)
Somewhere between the endless sky, and endless earth somewhere, between finite man's infinite thoughts somewhere, between the dying fire of the eye and endless sparks of intellect somewhere, somewhere during our finite life between its start and end, on the border of the Reachable somewhere, on the border of the unkillable hopes of some utter calmness somewhere on the border of the unkillable horrors of some deranged enormity, where shattered eternity yields Man's destiny to the eternal present, where dream gives way when tamed to faith, but Law is stricter all the more -
It’s there imagination the meaning starts to sense -- it’s there that it starts hoping for that which never ends.
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- -- --
Somewhere between the endless sky and endless earth somewhere, where the moment's weight just fell to bits, where thought, having been looted, sits, then from apparent death ascends, and starts its new life where the Column stands.
Such then is finite man, the way he’s set - He keeps coquetting with the infinite.
The infinite - no way to scale the end (that's after all what makes it infinite) therefore no way exists for him to comprehend.
Because we quantify each measure.
At what level is blood's pressure. What are we worth, are we a treasure. How great our fears, how much life's pleasure. How much will fate mete out the strife. And what length our only life.
In time given for our spending there's that marker column standing. Our great foe, our final ending shakes its fists - lacks power - and: gives life sans end its minute hand!
