Vető Miklós: On cold meadows (Hideg mezőkön Angol nyelven)
Hideg mezőkön (Magyar)Hideg mezôkön jár a gondolat, tarolt vidéken súllyal telt a szó. Terül a hó, mint mosott patyolat, párnás patákon lépeget a ló.
Nádas tetôkön mázsa félelem, vörös toronyban elfagyott harang: Nincs már sereg a messzi végeken, elfúl a szó, halott a harci hang.
Farkas lapul a süppedô havon: régen hevertek itten asztagok. Éhes mezô – kidûlt, bedôlt halom mostan bilincsek alján hallgatod,
mint szól a hó: „Haj, meghalsz holnapig, fehér csengôkkel elvisz a halál!” …A ló igyekszik, bizton alkonyig meleg szalmára, szénára talál…

On cold meadows (Angol)On cold meadows the mind is on the go, Heavy the words are on denuded ground. Fresh -washed cambric the covering of snow, With cushioned hooves do horses stride around.
Fear by the quintal each thatched roof supports, In the red tower there's a frozen bell: No more are troops at far off border forts, Choked are the words and dead the battle yell.
A wolf lies low upon the sinking snow: The time had passed since harvest stacks were here. A hungry field – the piles fell long ago, And now you lie and neath the bonds you hear
The snow saying: "By the morrow you'll die, With white bells death will carry you away!" ...The horse hurries, hopes finding by and by, Warm straw and hay when comes the dark of day…
