Halálhírem hallatán
átadja magát
a fájdalomnak majd
erőtlenül vonszolódik
és dől egy törzsét kínáló
magányos fához,
hogy sebesre harapja
gyáva nyelvét, melyen
kimondhatatlanok vakognak…

de nem; idővel
minden fájdalom tompul,
az élő meg helyet keres
egy másik élőben magának.

Hearing about my death
he submits
to pain, then
shakily drags himself about
and leans on a lone tree
offering its bole,
so he can bite and wound
his coward tongue that mumbles
words beyond expression…
 
but no; with time
all pain dullens,
and the living will seek for himself a place
in someone else who lives.
