Eörsi István: He stepped through the garden gate (Belépett a kerti ajtón in English)

Portre of Eörsi István

Belépett a kerti ajtón (Hungarian)

Belépett a kerti ajtón,
aztán mégsem ment tovább,
jelképes pillanat jött:
bizarr csók a rácson át.

Mennyi meghitt árnyú rácsot,
milyen bezárt kapukat
görbített el és nyitott ki
az a cinkos mozdulat,
ahogy pirosan, párásan,
pucéran, mint két falánk,
félénk állat, összebújt a
zúzos rácsok közt a szánk.

He stepped through the garden gate (English)

He stepped through the garden gate, but
then he stopped, was standing still,
a symbolic moment came:
a bizarre kiss through the grille.

Many locked gates, many railings'
cosy shadows did that start,
with its small and scheming gesture,
open wide or bend apart
as, twixt frosty rails our ruby
red and dewy naked lips,
like voracious timid beasties,
huddled whilst they came to grips.
