Illyés Gyula: Silent people (Néma népek in English)
Néma népek (Hungarian)A Guernica-sorozathoz
Tetteik sem a tetteik. Álmaik is mást magyaráznak. Uraikat.
Maguk sem hallják, csak belül; az égbolt-magasra nyiló állkapcsok mennydörgés-sorozatát;
a csont forgóiból a kín villámait.

Silent people (English)To the Guernica series
Their actions are not their actions Even their dreams comment on something else. Their masters.
Different people grimace from their mirror, though they are smiling, though with former features.
With more croaking than oaks when twisted by the wind, with more spluttering than the drowning when reaching the shore after all,
they hoard one word, a rock-solid one, per century.
Ears would be needed, divine ones.
Even they don't hear it, only within; that thunder-sequence of mandibles opening high as the sky;
from pivot joints of bone: pain's thunderbolts.
