Voltak fejedelmek,

Akiknek emlékoszlopot emeltek,

Magast és fényeset,

Mely hirdeté nagyságukat,

Mely hirdeté jóságukat.

És hol van az oszlop?... elesett!

El kellett esnie,

Mert hazugsággal volt tele.

Az idő igaz,

S eldönti, ami nem az.

Ott áll a sír most emléktelenül,

Az eltörött helyett mást nem tevének...

De nem! hisz örök átka nemzetének

Sötét oszlopként rajta nehezül.
