Számlálgatom, találgatom,
Hogy hány hetem vagy hány napom
Van hátra még...
Irgalmas ég,
Esdek, ne légy fukar nagyon.

Oh, hányszor hívtam a halált,
Mihelyt a kedvem búsra vált.
De most hogy itt
Ólálkodik;
Nem érzek mást, mint borzadályt.

Meghaljak?... Oh, ne még, ne még,
Agyam még eszme-tűzben ég.
Forró szivem
Jobban pihen
A napon: óh a sír setét.

Vágy még hevít, kedv még emel,
Oh, még sok dalt nem zengtem el.
S eszméimet
Mind a hideg,
Sötét koporsó nyelje el?

Toldjad meg hát, kegyelmes ég,
A csüggedt költő életét.
Hadd öntse ki
Érzelmei
Zengő, zsibongó tengerét.
