Hervay Gizella: Unprotected (Védtelenül in English)

Portre of Hervay Gizella

Back to the translator

Védtelenül (Hungarian)

Te tudod, hogy csak a sorsom embertelen,
mégis borzongva elhagysz.
Nézem a táguló homályt a szemeden.
Kegyetlen vagy, hiszen csak a sorsom embertelen.
Kegyetlen vagyok, hogy is kérhetem,
hogy osztozz szétzilált életemen!

Embertelen sorsába zártan
megmaradhat-e embernek az ember?
Feláldozzam a mosolyodat?
Üsselek pofon szerelemmel?

Akár a meztelen gondolat,
olyan védtelen a vágy

Az ember úgy sóvárog a tisztaságra,
hogy bemocskolja magát.

S a jóság olyan láthatatlan,
mint a virágba felszivárgó halál.

Tenyerem fáj, ha egy fa kérgét megsimítom.
Fáj-e a fának a simogatás?
Fáj-e neked a simogatás?

Akár a meztelen gondolat,
olyan védtelen a vágy.

S a tisztaság olyan láthatatlan,
mint a virágba felszívódó halál.

Unprotected (English)

You know that only my fate is inhuman,
yet you shudder and leave me.
I watch the expanding haze on your eyes.
You're cruel, for it’s only my fate that is inhuman.
I'm cruel, how could I really ask,
that you should share my shattered life with me!

Can one remain human
when locked in an inhuman fate?
Should I sacrifice your smile?
Should I slap you in the face with love?

As a naked thought,
that's how defenceless is desire.

One yearns for purity
by self-defiling.

And goodness is as invisible
as death is as it’s drawn into the flowers.

My palm hurts when I gently stroke a tree's bark.
Does gentle stroking hurt the tree?
Does gentle stroking cause a pain for you?

As a naked thought,
that's how defenceless is desire.

And cleanliness is as invisible
as death is as it’s absorbed into the flowers.
