Egy folyó állja útjukat.
A fiú lapos köveket talál a parton,
És kacsázni kezd velük –
 
Eldobja a kavicsokat,
Ugranak néhányat a vízen,
De az utolsó pattanás után sem
Süllyednek el,
 
Lebegni kezdenek, mintha könnyebbek
Lennének a víznél, és sodrás sem létezne.
 
A fiú addig folytatja a kacsázást,
Amíg egy híd nem ível át
A folyón, amin
 
Mindketten száraz lábbal átkelhetnek.

A river is in their way.
The boy finds flat rocks on the shore
And begins to bounce them on the water -
 
He throws the pebble stones,
They jump a few times on the surface.
But even after the last bounce,
They do not sink,
 
They begin to float as if they were
Lighter than water and even drift would not exist.
 
The boy continues bouncing the stones,
Until a bridge is arching over
The river, on which
 
Both of them can cross with dry feet.
