Acsai Roland: You fell asleep on the train (Elaludtál a vonaton in English)

Portre of Acsai Roland
Portre of Kery, Leslie A.

Back to the translator

Elaludtál a vonaton (Hungarian)

Ölembe hajtott fejjel
Elaludtál a vonaton
Két állomás között,

Talán semmi különös
Nem volt abban a pillanatban,
Nekem mégis sokat jelentett.

Szikráztak a csupasz ágak
Áramszedői, és a sín olyan volt,
Mint egy szán nyoma a hóban,

És úgy éreztem, mintha átszálltunk
Volna egy másik szerelvényre,
A valóságos vonat tovább robogott

Az ablakunk mellett, mi meg
Ott maradtunk az álombeli kocsiban,
És nem tartottam attól, hogy a kalauz

Leszállít, hiszen volt érvényes
Jegyem. Te voltál az, ahogy ott
Feküdtél az ölemben.

You fell asleep on the train (English)

With your head in my lap,
You fell asleep on the train
Between two stations,

Perhaps there was nothing
Unusual in that moment,
Yet to me it meant a lot.

The current collectors on the bare arms
sparked, and the rails were
Like sled-trails in the snow,

And I felt that it was as if
We had changed to another train,
The real train had dashed on

Beside our window whilst we
Stayed in the dream carriage
And, as I had a valid ticket,

I was not afraid that the conductor
Would put us off. You were that ticket
The way you lay on my lap.
