Nagy Teréz: Whence I came… (Ahonnan jöttem... in English)

Portre of Nagy Teréz

Ahonnan jöttem... (Hungarian)

Ahonnan jöttem, ott nincs bocsánat,
csak szürke falak, és halott házak.
Ahonnan jöttem, már fény sem villan,
a béke vége az égbe illan.

Ahonnan jöttem, már nem is várnak;
ezernyi bajban a szívek fáznak.
Hallgat a múzsa, és hallgat a nyár,
ahonnan jöttem, már anyám se vár.

Whence I came… (English)

There is no pardon for me whence I came,
only dead houses with grey walls the same.
Whence I came no longer flashes with light,
peace ends, it scampers and skyward its flight.

For me, whence I came, there's no one to wait;
hearts cool when hardships will never abate.
Silent the muse is, silent the summer,
now no one's waiting, not even mother.
