Hajnal Éva: My Sandals (Saruim in English)

Portre of Hajnal Éva

Saruim (Hungarian)

Kovács Emil Lajos festményéről

Vannak útjaim,
mik talpamhoz idomultak, mint az évek.
Velük élek.
Vérereimbe beleértek,
akár a csillagok éjszakáim saruján.
Vannak útjaim gondolatban:
végigjárok rajtuk,
mint tehervonatok tetején a szél,
mint szárnyát táró kismadár a fán,
mint illatos földben megbúvó remény,
mi sarjad, ha magvát eső sírja, s nap melengeti.
Vannak göröngyös útjaim, hol ijeszt a farkas, a medve,
hol mégis gyöngyök gurulnak tenyerembe.
... és vannak csillámló utak is,
égig elérők,
velem futnak a végtelenbe.
Mindezeket szeretem.
... és vannak utak
hol saruimat leveszem,
ezek csöndútjaim nekem.
Veled lehetek ott, Uram.

Ez legfontosabb utam.

My Sandals (English)

Emil Lajos Kovács’s painting

I’ve got my paths
having conformed to my feet like years.
I live with them.
They’ve become part of my blood vessels
just like stars on the sandals of my nights.
I’ve got paths on my mind:
I walk along them
like the wind on top of cargo trains,
like a little bird trying its wings,
like hope hiding in sweet-scented soil
that starts budding in tears of rain, warmth of sun.
I’ve got my rough paths, where wolves and bears frighten me
where my hands are still filled with pearls.
… and there are glimmering paths as well
reaching the sky
running into infinity with me.
I love them all.
… and there are paths
where I take my sandals off,
they are my silence-paths.
I can be with you there, my Lord

It’s my most important road.
