Updike, John: Nagymosás (Wash Magyar nyelven)
Wash (Angol)For seven days it rained that June; A storm half out to sea kept turning around like a dog trying to settle himself on a rug; We were the fleas that complained in his hair.
On the eight day, before I had risen, My neighbors' clothes had rushed into all the back yards And lifted up their arms in praise.
From an upstarts window it seemed prehistorical: Through the sheds and fences and vegetable gardens, Workshirts and nightgowns, long-soaked in the cellar
Underpants, striped towels, diapers, child's overalls, Bibs and black bras thronging the sunshine With hosannas of cotton and halleluiahs of wool.

Nagymosás (Magyar)Hét napig esett akkor júniusban a vihar, félig kint a tengeren forgolódott, mint egy kutya, amikor helyét keresi a rongyszőnyegen mi voltunk a szőrében panaszkodó bolhák
a nyolcadik napon, mielőtt felkelhettem volna szomszédom ruhái megszállták az egész hátsó udvart és imára emelték karjukat
eléggé prehisztorikusnak tűnt a fenti ablakból; keresztül fészereken, sövényeken és zöldségkerteken melóspólók és hálóingek, pincében túláztatott
gatyák, csíkos törülközők, pelenkák és gyermekoverallok, partedlik és fekete melltartók nyomultak a napfényben gyapothozsannázva és gyapjúhallelujázva.
